Dr. Stack Says COVID-19 Case Escalation Should Concern Residents

Kentucky Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack issued a challenge to residents Monday afternoon.
During Governor Andy Beshear’s COVID-19 news conference, Dr. Stack said the escalation of cases should be concerning.

Stack added other democracies have figured out how to curb the virus, but the U.S. has not.

Concerning COVID-19 cases, Stack said America has more than five times the amount of active cases than countries like Canada, Germany, and New Zealand. He added the country is also way above those same countries when it comes to COVID-19 deaths.

Dr. Stack said he wants people to answer two questions and mail him the responses.

Kentucky broke a record for the single-highest week of new cases last week, by reporting more than 6,000 new COVID-19 cases. Governor Beshear confirmed 543 cases Monday, including 130, coming from Fayette County which is currently backlogged. Also, the governor confirmed 5 new deaths raising the death toll to 1,214.
When answering questions from various media members at his conference Monday, Beshear said if things don’t change, action will be taken statewide with recommendations from the White House. That could include more restrictions for small business owners who are already struggling this year.
