Kentucky, Christian County COVID Cases Continue to Rise

Governor Andy Beshear reported the second highest single-day total of new positive coronavirus cases and deaths in Kentucky since the pandemic began.
The governor said Wednesday there were 1,487 new positive cases, of which 186 are 18-years old and younger. Wednesday’s cases pushed the state’s overall total to 90,996.
In addition, Governor Beshear announced 21 deaths, including a 91-year old from Christian County. To date, 1,363 deaths have been linked to the virus.
He said this third escalation is very real and concerning. He said the threat is greater this time than at any other since the pandemic began in March.

 
The governor again shared the Top Ten Rules to stop the spread of COVID-19. He said the White House state report put out one of the strongest statements to date regarding the spread at gatherings.

Beshear said they for people to be more cognizant of the dangers and be more diligent that everyone is wearing masks at gatherings and events.
He then gave some examples of contact tracing in which the virus was spread from events and gatherings from September and October.

As of Wednesday, the governor said the state’s positivity rate stands at 4.99%.
In Christian County, active COVID-19 cases have increased 12-percent in the past week, with Wednesday’s total of 278 one of the highest since the pandemic began.
The county has averaged 23.7 new cases a day over the past week with 31 new cases reported Wednesday. The health department said the positivity rate from the free testing at Tie Breaker Park over the past week was 13-percent.
Elsewhere, the Pennyrile District Health Department reported one new case in Trigg County. There have been 10 cases reported in Trigg in the past week compared to 16 the previous week.
The news is different in Lyon County where five new cases were reported Wednesday ranging in age from 19 to 66. There have been 13 cases reported in Lyon County in the past week compared to six the prior week.
Meanwhile, Caldwell County Judge-Executive Larry Curling reported four new positive COVID cases were confirmed Wednesday and involve one female and three males. One of the three males is 9-years old.
To date, a total of 233 cases have been confirmed in Caldwell County.
