Friday Regional COVID-19 Update


Governor Andy Beshear said Friday that Kentuckians must continue to wear masks to save lives and prevent the spread of COVID-19.
It had been a tough week because of the record-setting amounts of confirmed cases, Beshear said. He encouraged everyone to do their part to defeat the virus.
As of Friday afternoon, there were 1,457 new cases and 16 deaths. The positivity rate is now at 5.34-percent.
An 80-year-old man from Todd County and a 75-year-old woman from Logan County were among the new deaths.
Christian County Health Department spokeswoman Amanda Sweeney confirmed 43 new cases Friday evening. The county has 1,860 total cases with 299 deemed active. Sweeney added the county has 1,532 recoveries and 29 deaths since the pandemic began.
Officials with the Pennyrile District Health Department confirmed eight new COVID-19 cases in Caldwell County Friday and one new case in Lyon and Trigg counties. In all, there are 31 active cases in Caldwell County, three of which are hospitalized. Lyon County has 23 active cases, with two residents hospitalized, and Trigg County has 36 active cases, with four hospitalized.
In Todd County, health department director Jen Harris confirmed two new cases Thursday night. One case involved an adult with underlying health conditions, and the other was a healthy adult connected to the other case. The county has 38 active cases, with three hospitalized.
