More Details Released From Trigg Indictment Of Will Jackson Road Murder Suspect

Jonathan McCoy

More information has been released about an indictment returned last week for the Cadiz man accused of killing Thelma Barnett and setting her Will Jackson Road home on fire in September.
A Trigg County Grand Jury returned an indictment for 43-year-old Jonathan McCoy on charges of murder, abuse of a corpse, kidnapping, second-degree arson, tampering with physical evidence, first-degree burglary, and first-degree felony offender.
The charges stem from September 16, after state police said McCoy tied Barnett’s hands behind her back, strangled her to death, and then set fire to her home with her body still inside.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Carrie Ovey-Wiggins tells the News Edge evidence was presented to the grand jury last week concerning the case.

Ovey-Wiggins adds she was glad the indictment was handed down and that the case can move forward in court.

McCoy will appear virtually in Trigg County Circuit Court for arraignment Wednesday. He was not arrested on the murder and other charges from the death of Barnett until September 30.
McCoy was arrested on September 22, following a traffic stop by the Trigg County Sheriff’s Office near the intersection of U.S. 68 and Blue Springs Road, but was charged with an active warrant from another case, drug-related charges, and in relation an EBT card in his possession that was not his.
In addition, McCoy was indicted by a Lyon County Grand Jury last week on charges of receiving stolen property under $10,000, second-degree arson, and first-degree persistent felony offender.
That indictment resulted from an investigation by Sheriff Brent White from 2020 involving a stolen vehicle and arson incident near Kuttawa. No additional information has been released by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office on what led to those charges.
McCoy remains lodged in the Christian County Jail on a $2 million bond.
