Princeton City Council adopted a municipal order during Monday night’s meeting extending the occupational license tax deadline to mid-May in order to align with the federal and state deadline.
Mayor Kota Young informed council members the municipal order extends the filing of all city occupational license tax fee returns and payment of the occupational license tax until May 15.

click to download audioIn unfinished business, Mayor Young briefly revisited a request made by Atmos Energy at the last Princeton City Council meeting in March asking them to repeal an ordinance put into place which requires any entity that is going to cut into city streets three or more times to be responsible for repaving that street. After doing some research, Mayor Young said there were two other cities with similar ordinances.
click to download audioThe research comes after Atmos Energy told the council at the last meeting it would cost the company an additional $431,000 to repave the streets in order to complete their improvement projects. However, at that meeting, Mayor Young expressed his frustration with the lack of communication from officials at Atmos who were given a list of the City’s repaving projects that cost over $1.5 million to complete before the company started its improvement projects.
No action was taken by council members to repeal the ordinance.
In other action, council members approved Mayor Young’s recommendation to appoint Charles Smith to the Princeton Tourist and Convention Commission with a term to expire June 25, 2022, and Chris Burton was appointed to the Princeton Planning Commission to fill the unexpired term of Tiffany Massey, which expires October 1, 2024.
