A Caldwell County High School student is among 120 students from nearly 50 counties in Kentucky selected for the 2021 Governor’s School of Entrepreneurs.
Rachel McClung, who also plays tennis for the high school, was chosen for the highly competitive summer program where high school students in the state focus on product innovation and business model design.
Governor Andy Beshear announced the names of the 120 students Monday morning and said he is proud of the Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs and the students who have been chosen to participate in the premier summer program. He pointed out the experience is so sought after that they have added a second session this year so they could accommodate the increasing demand. The governor says this program will increase the students’ entrepreneurial spirit and put them on a path to create businesses and opportunities that will reap benefits for Kentucky for years to come.
The first session will run June 6-26 and the second session will be July 5-25 with plans for an in-person program hosted by Northern Kentucky University.
GSE is a three-week residential immersion program that opened its first group of students in 2013. During the program, officials indicate teams of students are given the tools to develop a business model, design a prototype and pitch their startups to a panel of judges.
State officials say more than sixteen new businesses have been launched by GSE alumni since the program first started.
