Caldwell School Board Hears Summer School Update


Caldwell County school board members heard an update regarding summer school and approved a bid for a new walk-in cooler/freezer for the high school kitchen.
During Monday night’s board meeting, Interim Superintendent Heath Cartwright said he has worked with the principals in the district and each school has been working on calendars with each schedule a little bit different.

Cartwright said he has also been asked about the use of computers and computer programs during summer school. He added the computers will mainly be used by the older students in order to accommodate their needs.


click to download audioHe pointed out the main thing is to make sure the students get the instruction needed to receive credit for those courses.

Cartwright said they cannot set the schedules and rosters yet, but they believe anywhere from 300 to 450 students will be participating in summer school.


click to download audioIn new business, the board unanimously approved a recommendation by Food Service Director Will Brown to accept the low bid of $48,062 from Manning Brothers for a walk-in cooler/freezer for the high school.


click to download audioCartwright said the district will use CARES Act funding to purchase the cooler/freezer.

The board also approved athletic bids for the middle school, and certified, classified and extra service staffing requests for the 2021-2022 school year.
