Caldwell County Magistrate Arrested On Multiple Charges

A Caldwell County magistrate has been charged with DUI and third-degree sexual abuse.

Kentucky State Police Post 2 spokesman Brandon McPherson tells the News Edge law enforcement responded to a sexual abuse complaint in Fredonia early Friday evening.
Trooper McPherson says 72-year old Elbert Bennett pulled up to his home on a tractor and was suspected of being under the influence. He says Bennett was taken into custody and was also the alleged perpetrator in the sexual abuse complaint, which is a misdemeanor offense.
Bennett has served as the District 1 magistrate since 2002. He also served as president of the Kentucky Magistrates and Commissioners Association (KMCA) from 2015-2017 and previously served as president for the Kentucky Association of Counties (KACo). In addition, Bennett has served on several state and county boards.
