Although Governor Andy Beshear said Kentucky senior citizen centers could re-open on Friday, June 11, area centers, including the Dr. Frank P. Giannini Senior Citizen Center in Princeton, will reopen July 1.
Officials with the Pennyrile Area Development District (PADD) and the Pennyrile Allied Community Services (PACS) made the announcement Thursday.
The other centers affected include Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Livingston, Lyon, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Trigg counties.
Officials said on July 1, all centers will return to their normal hours of operation and services before the pandemic, and all centers will continue to follow any Centers for Disease Control, state, and local guidelines.
Jill Collins, PADD Director of Aging and Independent Living, tells the News Edge that they chose the July 1 date to give adequate time to re-open.
On July 1, all centers will resume congregate meals, and throughout July, the centers will also continue providing curbside meal pick-up. If you would like a meal, you are still urged to call your local center to reserve them daily.
All other pre-pandemic services will resume when the centers are reopened, and clients will be getting a letter providing more details and information as they become available.
Collins adds more details will be released in the coming weeks.
