
Youth in Caldwell County have been improving their marksmanship through the 4-H Shooting Sports program with the state tournament coming up later this year.
Rhonda Jewell, Caldwell County extension agent for 4-H youth development, said kids between 9 and 18 have been practicing every Tuesday at the Jones-Keeney Gun Range on Dawson Road.
click to download audioThe kids are taught the principles of gun safety and sportsmanship in a competitive shooting environment. Jewell said the program is led by several certified volunteers.

click to download audioKentucky’s 4-H Shooting Sports Program began in 1988 and continues to offer several disciplines. The state shooting competition will be held on September 11 at the Bluegrass Sportsmen’s League in Wilmore.
