Motorists need to be aware a contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to establish a work zone lane restriction on KY 91 at the northwest edge of Marion in Crittenden County starting Thursday.
District 1 spokesman Keith Todd says the daytime work zone lane restriction at KY 91 is to allow initial prep work for the construction of a roadway diversion for the future construction of a new Crooked Creek Bridge. He says the work zone is along KY 91 at the Marion City Limits just over 1/2 mile north of the U.S. 60/Main Street intersection.
According to Todd, the contractor anticipates construction of the diversion with a temporary bridge will take about two months or more to complete, depending on the weather.
Motorists should be alert for one-lane traffic with alternating flow controlled by flaggers during daylight hours with some delays possible when work equipment is being moved around.
Todd says the existing KY 91 Crooked Creek Bridge at this site is restricted to a 10-ton load limit. He notes this section carries traffic to and from the Cave-in-Rock Ferry. He adds approximately 850 vehicles travel this section of KY 91 North of Marion in an average day.
Scott & Murphy, Inc., is the prime contractor on the $940,938 bridge replacement project. The target completion day for construction of the new Crooked Creek Bridge is May 1.
