A longtime law enforcement officer who has served as a deputy with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office for over a decade was promoted to chief deputy this week.
Sheriff Brent White says on Wednesday the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office made history by promoting its longest-serving deputy, Sam Adams, to the position of chief deputy sheriff. He notes Lyon County was one of only a few sheriff’s offices in western Kentucky without a chief deputy before Wednesday’s ceremony.
According to Sheriff White, Adams started his law enforcement career in 1993 with the Georgetown Police Department before joining the Paducah Police Department in 1999. Adams retired from Paducah in 2010. In August of that year, he was hired by former Lyon County Sheriff Kent Murphy and has continued his service with their office.
Sheriff White says Chief Deputy Adams works hard for the citizens of Lyon County day in and day out. He adds that Adams’s experience, tenure, attention to detail and dedication to public service made him an obvious choice to assist him in leading their agency’s team of professionals.
A badge pinning ceremony was held at the Lyon County Courthouse Wednesday where Chief Deputy Adams was joined by his wife, Belinda, and son Trace and his father Tracy in addition to many co-workers.
