A Marion man was arrested on a felony theft charge after deputies say he stole a rifle scope from a business in McCracken County Friday afternoon.
The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office reports 20-year old Thomas Drake Kemper was charged with felony charges of shoplifting/theft and promoting contraband after jailers located a small amount of methamphetamine hidden on him when he was being booked into the McCracken County Detention Center.
Around 5:30 Friday afternoon, the police report says an associate with Shooter’s Supply notified the sheriff’s office that an unknown white male, later identified as Kemper, and two white females had entered the business and the male left the store with a $3,000 Burris Thermal Rifle Scope without paying for it.
A vehicle that matched the description given to all working patrol units was located by deputies about an hour later in the drive-thru line at Starbucks. Once the vehicle exited the line, deputies conducted a traffic stop and spoke with two females who were on video with the male. Deputies said the females cooperated and stated they were unaware the scope was stolen. The scope was reportedly located in the rear passenger area of the vehicle and turned over to deputies.
During the investigation, deputies say they located Kemper on foot in the area of Texas Roadhouse and Academy Sports and he was taken into custody.
Deputies said the scope was returned to Shooter’s Supply undamaged.
