LG&E And KU Campaign To Benefit United Way Of The Pennyrile

Through its voluntary employee-giving campaign called “Power of One,” the Louisville Gas and Electric Company and the Kentucky Utilities Company (alongside foundational support) has raised more than $2 million for non-profit organizations.

Among the 26 support programs and services set to benefit from this includes the United Way of the Pennyrile — which serves Caldwell, Christian, Todd and Trigg counties in west Kentucky.
It’s just the fourth time in the company’s long history to collect this much in contributions, with LG&E and KU Executive Vice President and campaign co-chair John Wolfe noting they were “proud to contribute these dollars, which will do things like help provide access to healthcare services, food, shelter and other basic needs, help prepare more children for kindergarten, and offer financial empowerment programs across the quad-county area.
More than 60% of LG&E and KU employees participate in the campaign through payroll deduction, and since 2005, this specific campaign has raised nearly $30 million through payroll deductions, event fundraisers and retiree donations.
This investment isn’t the only one LG&E and KU has made in west Kentucky this year. The utility company serves more than 1.3 million customers in the Commonwealth, and have already announced a filing with the Kentucky Public Service Commission to provide renewable energy to five major organizations in their service territories with solar energy generated from a 125-megawatt solar facility to be constructed in McCracken County by 2025.
Those five organizations include the University of Kentucky, North American Stainless, the University of Louisville, the Chemours Company and Dow.
