Churches And Non-Profit Organizations May Be Eligible For FEMA Assistance


As of Saturday, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) had approved more than $4.5 million in federal assistance for individuals and businesses to help victims of the December 10 tornado.
Of the $4.5 million, Communications Specialist Yvonne Smith with FEMA reported $3.01 million has been approved for housing assistance, and $1.34 million has been approved for other disaster-related assistance.
As of Saturday, 3,389 home inspections had been completed and $933,800 in Small Business Administration (SBA) home and economic injury disaster loans had been approved.
According to Smith, houses of worship and other nonprofit organizations may be eligible for FEMA assistance to help pay for emergency protective measures, debris removal and restoration of facilities damaged by severe storms and tornadoes beginning December 10th.
Smith announced on Thursday that FEMA representatives will be available to assist individuals at the Butler gym in Princeton 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays, until further notice.
In addition to FEMA personnel, representatives from the Kentucky Office of Unemployment Insurance, the Kentucky Department of Insurance, and the U.S. Small Business Administration are available at the recovery centers to assist storm and tornado victims.
To register for FEMA assistance, mobile registration centers are set up at the Butler Gymnasium, located at 600 West Main Street, in Princeton, and at the Dawson Springs Library located at 103 West Ramsey Street.
The deadline to apply for FEMA assistance is February 11, 2022.
