Direct Temporary Housing Assistance Available For Caldwell And Hopkins Counties

FEMA has announced its holiday weekend hours at all of the Disaster Recovery Centers in the region. FEMA Communications Specialist Yvonne Smith says the centers will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, New Year’s Eve, and closed Saturday, New Year’s Day. FEMA will be open Sunday from noon to 6 p.m and Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Smith also announced Thursday, at the request of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, FEMA has approved Direct Temporary Housing Assistance in six Individual Assistance-designated counties, including Caldwell County and Hopkins County.
She says based on currently available inspection and rental data FEMA’s direct housing program assistance has been approved for the following categories: Direct Lease, Multi-Family Lease and Repair, and Temporary Housing Units.
According to Smith, obtaining Direct Housing Assistance through FEMA is not an automatic process. She says eligibility is determined after the survivor applies for FEMA assistance and according to guidelines developed and approved by the Commonwealth on Kentucky and FEMA.
Smith explains that Direct Temporary Housing Assistance is available to eligible applicants whose primary residence is uninhabitable, and Rental Assistance is not an option due to a lack of available housing resources in the area.
FEMA’s Direct Temporary Housing Assistance was also approved for survivors in the counties of Graves, Marshall, Muhlenberg and Warren.
As of Thursday, FEMA has approved more than $5.88 million for individuals and households to help survivors start their recovery from severe storms and tornadoes that occurred in Kentucky earlier this month.
After the holiday weekend, the FEMA Disaster Recovery Center at the Butler Gymnasium in Princeton, and at the Dawson Springs Library will be open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday for anyone who wants to register for federal assistance. Survivors can also apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling 1-800-621-3362 or by using the FEMA mobile app.
The deadline to apply for assistance is February 11, 2022.
