Lyon County Sheriff Brent White says he took a report of a FEMA fraud complaint this week.
According to Sheriff White, he took the complaint around noon Thursday after a citizen in Lamasco received a letter from the U.S. Small Business Administration pursuant to a FEMA storm damage claim the victim had never made.
Sheriff White is reminding citizens this could be someone who has stolen their identity and is making a fraudulent FEMA claim because you have an address in a county where a disaster has been declared.
Sheriff White says if you suspect fraud involving your identity in this manner, you should report it to both the SBA Customer Service Center at 1-800-659-2955 and the National Center for Disaster Fraud at 866-720-5721.
