Princeton Mayor Announces Closure Of Landfill Has Begun

Princeton Mayor Kota Young announced Friday evening the clean-up phase of the City’s Tornado Recovery Plan has drawn to a close and now the focus shifts to rebuilding.
Mayor Young said in a social media post that the City reached a bittersweet milestone Friday night, as the fires have burnt out and the closure of the landfill has begun.
During Tuesday night’s meeting, Princeton City Council approved bids from J & J Excavating, of Fredonia, which included the landfill operation, storm debris pickup, and the landfill closure.
Clean-up efforts have been ongoing in Princeton since an EF-4 tornado ripped through subdivisions adjacent to the Princeton Golf Club on South Jefferson Street and other areas in Caldwell County on the night of December 10. As debris pick-up and clean-up efforts got underway the Golf Club became instrumental as the golf course itself was utilized for burn pits and a massive landfill for homes and other structures that were either damaged beyond repair or completely destroyed.
Mayor Young also said Friday night in his post there will still be work to do over the days ahead, but now the City’s focus shifts to a new phase of recovery — rebuilding. He added the City’s best days are still to come.
