NWS Confirms Wednesday EF-1 Tornado Near Rockcastle

The National Weather Service has confirmed that one of five tornadoes that touched down in western Kentucky Wednesday was along the Trigg/Lyon County line near Rockcastle.
A National Weather Service storm survey team visited several places Thursday after two separate damaging storm systems moved through western Kentucky.
The EF-1 tornado began near Hematite Lake in Land Between the Lakes around 4:51 Wednesday afternoon and stayed on the ground for nearly five miles. It crossed over Honker Lake and Lake Barkley before making landfall on Hampton Drive and Null’s Drive in Lyon County.
The estimated peak winds with the tornado were 95 miles per hour with a maximum width of 150 yards. The survey team said many tree limbs were downed and several large trees were uprooted and snapped.
The survey team also recorded two EF-0 tornadoes just north of Briensburg in Marshall County around the same time that ripped the roof off an outbuilding and destroyed a chicken coop.
An EF-1 tornado was recorded just north of Mayfield that was three miles long and had winds around 90 mph, and a second EF-0 tornado was confirmed near Water Valley.
No injuries were reported with the storms.
