Republican Candidates For Caldwell Coroner Speak At Forum

The Republican candidates for Caldwell County Coroner participated in a Meet and Greet forum hosted by the Caldwell County Republican Executive Committee at the courthouse Tuesday night.
Incumbent candidate for coroner, Dewayne Trafford was the first candidate allowed 10 minutes to answer three questions given to the candidates prior to the forum.

When asked about his qualifications to be coroner, Trafford said he has been certified in the state of Kentucky for more than three decades and participates in training every year.

click to download audioHe said the coroner’s duties include signing death certificates, death investigations, autopsies when necessary, toxicology, post mortem exams and sometimes a coroner’s inquest.
When asked how he would handle a mass fatality incident in Caldwell County, Trafford noted that means five or more deaths, and he added the state is prepared with resources to help with this type of incident.

Kevin Lane

Republican challenger for coroner, Kevin Lane said growing up his father was a former deputy coroner in Caldwell County and he watched dedication and compassion for the families he served. Lane added he meets the qualifications to run for coroner and if elected he will be required to undergo training.
