A Madisonville man wanted on two arrest warrants was taken into custody after police say he barricaded himself inside a home and then led officers on a short foot pursuit over the weekend.
Sergeant Taylor Boggs with the Madisonville Police Department reports when officers attempted to serve the warrants on 20-year old old Julian L. Hutchins at 130 Spence Avenue shortly after 3:00 Saturday afternoon, he was found hiding in the overhead attic space and refused to surrender himself to police. He says Hutchins then attempted to flee by going through the attic to an adjoining residence at 132 Spence Avenue that was unoccupied at the time.
According to Sgt. Boggs, while officers attempted to communicate with Hutchins, he began making threats to harm others and barricaded himself inside the residence. He then allegedly broke out a bedroom window and refused to surrender to officers. After a brief standoff, Hutchins reportedly fled out of the front door of the residence, wielding a large knife that police say was later determined to have been taken from inside the home. Sgt. Boggs says a short foot pursuit ensued and due to public safety concerns, officers deployed a taser cartridge on Hutchins and he was arrested without further incident.
Sgt. Boggs indicates Hutchins was transported to the emergency room at Baptist Health for minor cuts to his hands and arm that occurred during the burglary. He was later released and transported to the Hopkins County Jail charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief, third-degree terroristic threatening, second-degree disorderly conduct, first-degree fleeing or evading police, and resisting arrest.
