Hudson Reflects On Career As Caldwell Sheriff

Retiring Caldwell County Sheriff Stan Hudson

Retiring Caldwell County Sheriff Stan Hudson says he’s proud of his department and its accomplishments over the last two decades of his career.
Sheriff Hudson tells the News Edge when he was first elected in 1998 he had a vision for the department that was a huge factor in recruiting new deputies.


click to download audioHudson said he also applied for grants which the department had never done prior to him becoming sheriff. He noted one of the grants they received was used to install mobile data terminals in patrol vehicles, which made it safer for deputies when they pulled over vehicles and knew who they were dealing with.
The sheriff’s department also provided a school resource officer for over a decade in Caldwell County schools.

click to download audioThe sheriff also started another service — unlocking vehicles for those in the community, which Hudson said has been a good way to get to know the people in the county.


click to download audioHudson also went to Caldwell County schools to talk to kids about the dangers of drugs, and the sheriff’s department established the Drug Endangered Coalition.


click to download audioDuring Hudson’s retirement reception Wednesday, he got emotional when talking about when he decided to run for sheriff over two decades ago.
