DANGEROUS HEAT

The core of the heat wave will begin on Tuesday and last through the end of the week. This pushes high temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday into the middle 90s to around 100 degrees. A Heat Advisory is in effect through 9 PM Thursday for the western half of the state. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur. This will be dangerous heat for anyone working outside for very long. Heat is the number one weather killer in the U.S., more so than floods or tornadoes and hurricanes. So take this heat wave seriously.
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles. But there is a little hope in our future. A disturbance and cold front brings good chances of showers and storms, especially Friday as the actual front pushes through the area. These showers and storms will bring welcome temporary relief from the heat and drought conditions. However, some strong storms will also be possible. The cold front pushes south of the area Saturday into Sunday and will help cool temperatures back into the upper 80’s to around 90 with less humidity.
A Thought; There is a Lakota story that says…Everyone hopes that if he feeds the bear enough, the bear will eat him last. Storms are like that. All of them hope that the coming storm will pass before their turn comes to be devoured. But I fear for some…I fear greatly that the storm will not pass. It will rage and it will roar, even more loudly, even more widely. It is during the storm that you learn the lesson. You can either let it make you or break you. Take this time to reflect on your choices in life because a storm is coming. Maybe not now…but soon. Sing praises to God with your feet on the ground, finding that every sunrise gives you reason to hope. Every darkness of night teaches you patience. While you can, live life well and truly care about others.
