Man Charged After Large Cache Of Guns Found Inside Residence


An Illinois man who is reportedly a convicted felon was arrested Friday afternoon after a complaint led to a search at a residence in Lyon County and over a dozen guns were seized.
Lyon County Sheriff Brent White says deputies with his office, the Eddyville Police Department, and Western Kentucky Violent Crimes Task Force executed the search warrant at a residence on Elkhorn Tavern Road around 5 p.m. He says the male subject was reportedly a convicted felon from Illinois who had an alleged violent criminal past.
Upon execution of the warrant, 67-year old Robert M. Smyth of West Chicago was taken into custody by Deputy Seth P’Pool and charged with first-degree wanton endangerment, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Chief White reports approximately sixteen guns made up of handguns and long guns were seized in addition to numerous rounds of ammunition. Smyth was lodged in the Crittenden County Jail. In addition, Sheriff White indicates 40-year old Robin M. Palmer of Eddyville was issued a summons to court after being found in possession of marijuana as a result of the search warrant on Elkhorn Tavern Road.
