Princeton Man Charged With Murder Obtains New Attorney

Tommy Dunning/Caldwell County Jail mugshot

Another hearing has been scheduled after a new attorney took over the murder case of a Princeton man charged in the November 2021 death of his girlfriend.
39-year old Tommy Dunning was indicted by a Caldwell County grand jury in January on a charge of murder in the death of Ursula Hamlet. According to state police, Dunning allegedly shot Hamlet at a home on Coleman Crider Road during some kind of altercation on November 22, 2021. Detectives said Hamlet was found inside the home with a single gunshot wound to her neck. She was pronounced deceased at the scene by Caldwell County Coroner Dewayne Trafford.
At a pretrial conference in Caldwell Circuit Court this week, Commonwealth’s Attorney Carrie Ovey-Wiggins said Steven Ellingsworth of Paducah entered his appearance as Dunning’s attorney.
Dunning will be back in court on September 6 for another pretrial conference.
He remains lodged in the Caldwell County Jail on a $1 million cash bond.
