Roach Talks To Rotarians About Upcoming Caldwell School Year

Caldwell County School Superintendent Dr. Jeremy Roach says he’s excited about the upcoming school year and various things going on in the district.
Dr. Roach was the guest speaker at the Princeton Rotary Club weekly meeting Tuesday. During his update about everything going on in the school district, he said the official start of school for students is Monday, August 29th.


click to download audioIn order to better utilize five contract days for teachers, administrators came up with Tiger Prep Days or a soft start for students next week.


click to download audioAs a whole, he added, they have about 1,750 students in the district which is holding par with where the district has been in the past before COVID.


click to download audioDr. Roach said he’s also excited about the renovation projects going on in the district, including at the elementary school that is undergoing several projects.


click to download audioOther renovation projects include new turn lanes in front of the primary school to improve safety, track repairs and resurfacing, and safety vestibules at each of the schools.


click to download audioDr. Roach said it’s also important that they continue to grow the district’s Arts program which had the largest impact because of COVID.


click to download audioHe noted they are also making a priority list for the Performing Arts Center that needs to be updated including lights and sound equipment. He added that would be a two to three-year process.
Roach also touched on some new plans for this year which include partnering with more businesses in the community for job-specific training. He noted that approximately 45%, or about 65 students, of Caldwell’s graduating seniors, don’t go to college and this training will help these students fill local job openings.
The district is always focused on academics, according to Roach, and they have seen some growth in that area with the ACT scores showing a slight improvement.
