George Coon Public Library Among Several Receiving Emergency Connectivity Fund

More than 20 of Kentucky’s public libraries are part of $1.2 million commitment from the Emergency Connectivity Fund — a federal program to help schools and libraries provide tools and services needed for communities to better experience remote learning.

Among those libraries includes the George Coon Public Library in Caldwell County.
Grants from this specific fund allow for the expansion of traditional E-rate programs while addressing rural broadband needs, and it helps participating libraries expand (or start) hotspot and laptop lending programs that, typically, can be cost-prohibitive.
The $7.17 billion Federal Communications Commission Fund was authorized by Congress through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, in order to help address the homework gap for those who currently lack necessary Internet access, or the devices needed to connect to classrooms and educational resources. The ECF comes from here.
These $1.2 million in commitments will fund more than 400 laptops/tablets, and more than 2,700 hotspots.
