Black Patch Festival Draws Record-Breaking Crowd

Princeton Optimist Club President George Kilgore says they are very pleased with the turnout at the annual Black Patch Heritage Festival held this past weekend with an estimated 8,000 people attending the event.
Kilgore believes a new record was set for the number of entries in the Black Patch Parade.


click to download audioHe added the WPKY staff served as the grand marshals and led the hour-long parade that also included emergency personnel along with several groups, organizations and political candidates.
After the parade, he noted that some vendors started setting up in downtown to get ready for the festival on Saturday, which Kilgore stated turned out to be a wonderful day with just a few sprinkles.

click to download audioAfter the festival, Kilgore said they have heard feedback from some of the groups including the turnout for the Car Show, the Kiwanis Breakfast and the new Cow Milking Display.

click to download audioKilgore says there were over 125 dogs entered in the Dog Show and there was a huge turnout for the Soccer Alumni game with the Butler parking lot full of players and supporters.
As far as the crowd on Saturday, Kilgore says they feel it was a good turnout. He indicates people started coming shortly after the vendors set up at 9:00 and by noon the streets were packed. He noted there was a little bit of a lull around mid-afternoon but not a drastic drop, with a steady flow of people most of the day that continued into the evening.

He concluded by iterating they are encouraged for next year’s festival after the feedback they have received from vendors, attendees and everyone involved with this year’s event.
