A train and semi collided in Webster County Tuesday evening, forcing the rail line to shut down for several hours.
The Webster County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook that deputies were dispatched to the collision around 5:50 that evening at the entrance and exit to the Sebree Springs park located off of Highway 41 South just south of the city of Sebree.
According to the sheriff’s office, Lowell Foster of Evansville had picked up some black topping equipment on a lowboy semi-trailer and attempted to cross the elevated train crossing when his trailer got stuck. He attempted to unload the heavy equipment in order to free the trailer that was stuck but before he get it unloaded, a CSX train with 108 cars was unable to stop and struck the truck and trailer. Law enforcement reports there were no injuries and the rail line was shut down for about 4-hours while recovery companies attempted to move the heavy blacktopping equipment.
Train traffic was allowed to resume around 10:00 Tuesday night but recovery efforts continued until after midnight. Authorities indicate the truck and trailer and one crossing arm unit were destroyed in the collision.
