KY 1340 Remains Closed In Webster County

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced Tuesday that KY 1340 in Webster County remains closed after a sinkhole opened on the roadway on Friday, October 14th. District 2 spokeswoman Keirsten Jaggers says the small opening in the highway was discovered by one of the crew and the proper authorities were notified.
This road closure is between Dixon and east of KY 874.
She indicates state transportation cabinet and mine officials visited the site to help review the circumstances that day and determine the best choice of action.
– At present, the asphalt base has been put on the damaged area.
– Repairs on KY 1340 are planned to begin in early November for the damaged section of pavement near mile point 1.9.
– These repairs will address the area through the winter months.
– Pavement will be addressed in the spring after all minor remaining settlements have occurred.
– Once these repairs begin, it should take approximately one week to complete.
According to Jaggers, all repairs will be coordinated and funded by the mine company.
Approximately 589 vehicles travel KY 1340 daily.
