New Livestock Pavilion Coming To Western Kentucky State Fair

A new livestock barn for the Western Kentucky State Fair in Hopkinsville is in the plans with a grant from the Kentucky Department of Agriculture to help make the barn a reality.
The Kentucky Department of Agriculture award a $100,000 grant to the Western Kentucky State Fair this week. The money will be used to help pay for the construction of a new livestock barn to replace the aging facility that stands behind the grandstands on the fair grounds in Hopkinsville.
The livestock barn hosts a number of livestock shows each year including beef cattle, swine, sheep, goats, rabbits, and chickens. The livestock barn is also host to the petting zoo during the fair that is typically held in late June.
The Western Kentucky State Fair livestock barn grant was one of five that totaled $500,000. Other projects include $92,325 for a new restroom building in Adair County, $100,000 for demolition of an old barn and the construction of a new livestock pavilion in Bourbon County, $100,000 for the demolition of an old building and construction of a new building to house restrooms, a concession stand and an office area in Marion County, and $100,000 to Whitley County for the construction of a horse ring shelter.
Any incorporated fair board in Kentucky may apply with the State Aid to Local Agricultural Fairs Program for grants in the amount of $10,000-$100,000. Each grant will fund 75 percent of the total cost of the project, with the local fair board matching the other 25 percent. Each project must be started within 90 days of the date the project was awarded and must be completed within nine months.
Grants may be used for infrastructure or facility improvements, capital construction, or purchase of non-permanent tangible items such as bleachers or restaurant equipment.
