Due to high winds, the Cave-in-Rock Ferry is temporarily closed. The ferry halted service at about 10:10 a.m.
District 1 spokesman Keith Todd from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says winds were out of the west-southwest with gusts to 45 mph, with a wind advisory in effect until 3:00 this afternoon. He notes that winds are expected to continue to be gusty into the evening hours.
The Cave-in-Rock Ferry connects KY 91 with Illinois Route 1 across the Ohio River between Crittenden County and Hardin County, Illinois.
The ferry normally starts service at 6:00 a.m., 7 days a week. The last run from the Illinois landing is at 9:40 p.m., and the last run from the Kentucky landing is at 9:50 p.m.
