Man Charged After Trigg County Crash


A Murfreesboro, Tennessee man has been charged after a wreck on Interstate 24 in Trigg County sent him and two other men to the hospital Friday morning.
Trigg County Sheriff’s deputies say a truck driven by 39-year-old Dustin Smith was going the wrong way on Interstate 24 and collided with a tractor-trailer driven by Russell Thompson at the 60-mile marker westbound.
The tractor-trailer then hit the cable barriers before coming to a stop. Smith reportedly drove 10 miles in the wrong direction before the crash.
Both drivers and a passenger in Thompson’s truck Ernest Reid were taken by ambulance to Trigg County Hospital for injuries and later released.
Smith was later charged with DUI, first-degree criminal mischief, first-degree wanton endangerment, possession of an open alcoholic container in a motor vehicle, and second-degree possession of a controlled substance.
The crash happened just after 1 am. The investigation is being handled by Sergeant Joshua Oden.
