Fredonia Lions Club 58th Annual Summer Festival Is Saturday


Everyone is invited to the Fredonia Lions Club 58th Annual Summer Festival to be held Saturday at the Buddy Rogers Ballpark in Fredonia.

The festival begins at 8:30 Saturday morning with T-ball and minor and major league baseball games. Trophies will be presented at noon.
Other festival activities include: Bingo, the Caldwell County FFA students’ annual Tractor Pull, and children’s games begin at 10:00 a.m.; and, the Cake Walk will begin at noon along with a magician who will entertain the crowd from noon until 1:00 p.m. Officials are asking friends of the Lions Club to provide a pie or cake for the Cake Walk. They note meringue pies cannot be accepted.

The annual Pet Show will be held at 3:00 Saturday afternoon. The categories this year are Cutest Pet, Best Personality, Most Talented, Best Dressed, Most Unique, and Best Groomed. Awards for first and second place in each category will be presented as well as ribbons to each participant All pets are welcome.
At 4:00, the annual Washer Pitch Contest for both men and women will begin with the winners awarded a “nice” pocket knife.
Musical entertainment begins at 5:00 with local talent performing followed by The Barry Baker Band with Gary Meeks returning to join the band for the night.
All-day events will include free inflatables for kids provided by local churches, the 50/50 draw, Silent Auction with donations for big prize drawings including $100 cash, a Black Store griddle, a cooler, a girl’s bike and a boy’s bike, and a “nice” hand tool.
The Lions Train built by Roger Mitchell and helpers will provide free rides through the park.

There will also be plenty of food that will be sold by the Fredonia Lions Club on Saturday. The barbecue pits will be fired up on Friday for the pork butts and chickens to be sold on Saturday with the pork to be sold by the sandwich, plate, or by the pound. Other food available will be tenderloin sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, snow cones, lemonade shake-ups, hand-dipped ice cream, homemade pies and cakes, funnel cakes, popcorn, drinks and more.
Fredonia officials are inviting vendors to sell any appropriate items other than food. Vendors are asked to come early and line up on the inside of the fence at Buddy Rogers Ballpark. The club treasurer will come around to your booth around noon to collect your $10 for the day.
Profits from the day’s event will support the Fredonia Lion’s Club charitable programs that include providing eye exams and eyeglasses for those in need, supporting our youth with high school scholarships, and many other activities.
In addition to the festival, the Fredonia Activities Committee is sponsoring a parade leading up to the annual festival. The parade will be held at 6:00 Friday night with the lineup to begin at 5:00 at the old Fredonia School parking lot on Cassidy Avenue. All parade participants are asked to pull in at Fredonia City Hall and someone will let you know where to go. Officials indicate that churches and businesses in Fredonia will be handing out free food during the evening.
