Princeton’s 9th Annual MLK Jr. Celebration Overcomes Weather Challenges

Despite slick road conditions and bitterly cold temperatures, the 9th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration was held in Princeton at noon Monday.

Rev. Steve Fortenberry of Central Presbyterian Church welcomed everyone to the celebration and presided over the opening prayer, followed by Mayor Brock Thomas who provided the opening remarks.

Dr. Little, born in Jacksonville, Florida, and raised in Ft. Lauderdale, delivered a message of love and support. He says every one of us needs to have a drum major instinct.

click to download audioHe shared that we need to have a “we can” attitude with everything we do and serve our fellow man.

He concluded his remarks by asking everyone to leave the church with a positive attitude and to “be ready to run.”

click to download audioThose on hand also heard from the essay winners, which included Zari Wilson, Isabella Burton, Olivia Williams and Ethan Klidzegs. This year’s essay theme was “What Have You Done For Others?”

The MLK, Jr. Celebration was held at Central Presbyterian Church in downtown Princeton.
