Princeton Ham Radio Club’s Winter Field Day Prepares for Emergencies

The Princeton Ham Radio Club held its winter field day over the weekend in the local Wal-Mart parking lot.

The group braved the cold weather and wind to set up their adjoining tent and trailer to practice and train for 24 continuous hours to better prepare to help in case of an emergency. Club President Joey McCaslin shared some details about the field day.

click to download audioWes Belt serves as Vice President of the Club and noted the field day was a practice exercise for the group.

click to download audioHe added that the Walmart parking was selected due to being a central location and open to the public. He went on to say anyone could stop by and join them during their training and talk on the radio with them. Belt shared they had communicated with individuals across the nation and sent out emails across the world.

click to download audioThe Club welcomes guests and new members to visit their monthly meetings held on the third Saturday at 11:00 am at the EOC. They offer training to those interested in gaining their license through the FCC. Craig Young serves as the Secretary/Treasurer and noted the Club has around 60 members with 15 to 20 of those involved in the 24-hour project. The group recognized WPKY’s production/technology team member John Miller as an important part of the Club.
