Drivers need to be aware that a brush-clearing crew plans to resume work along a section of Interstate 69 in Lyon County starting Wednesday.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 1 spokesman Keith Todd says while much of the work can be completed along the right-of-way without lane restrictions, motorists should be alert for equipment and personnel along I-69 starting near the 70-mile marker to work northward along the northbound lanes over the next several weeks.

According to Todd, the northbound work zone will be active during the day anytime weather allows as the crew uses an excavator-mounted brush cutter to clear the right-of-way. He indicates this daytime work zone will generally extend about 1/2 mile and continue moving northward as work progresses.

The crew plans to work northward to the U.S. 62 Princeton-Eddyville Exit 71 Interchange, then clear brush around the interchange before continuing northward to the Lyon-Caldwell County Line near mile point 76.  The crew will then move to the southbound lanes and work back to the I-69/I-24 Exit 68 Interchange.

Todd says this is part of an ongoing effort to clear brush along the right-of-way, at bridge ends, and around signage along both I-69 and I-24.

Appropriate caution is required where equipment, flaggers, and maintenance personnel are along the roadway near traffic flow.
