Several residents were on hand at Monday night’s Princeton City Council meeting to ask the city to address concerns about the noise and trash generated by groups of teenagers and young adults who are congregating in the parking lot at the Butler Building.

Doug Littlejohn represented the group and asked for something to be done due to an increase of incidents of vandalism, vehicles being egged, peeping toms, and door-knocking in the area, which he attributed to the teenagers and young adults congregating in the parking lot. He also mentioned that even a small fire was set.

Police Chief Chris King said Littlejohn had called the police department and patrols in the area have been increased when possible. However, he noted that the police department does not have the authority to disburse the groups on the Butler lot as that is school board property and they allow multiple school groups to meet there.

The City Council suggested Littlejohn take his concerns to the Caldwell County school board.

In unfinished business, city council unanimously approved on second reading the Adams Breezy Hill Farm annexation ordinance encompassing around 11 acres of property into the city limits.

In new business, the council approved the renewal of the mosquito spraying Memorandum of Understanding for the Kentucky Department of Agriculture for a 2-year term.

The council also approved the reappointment of Brent Ladd to the Princeton Water and Wastewater Commission with a term to expire April 1, 2028, along with the reappointment of Raymond Giannini to the Dotson Park Board with a term to expire May 1, 2028.

Mayor Brock Thomas also informed council members that FEMA denied the City of Princeton’s claim for repaving the streets in the areas affected by the December 10, 2021 tornado. He mentioned that the City has submitted an application for the SAFE funds for this project.
