Caldwell County Emergency Management Director Joey McCaslin is reporting several downed trees across the county after a line of severe storms moved across western Kentucky Sunday morning.

The storms prompted severe thunderstorm warnings and tornado warnings for Caldwell and Lyon counties, along with several other counties in the region.

According to McCaslin, KY 139 from Interstate 24 has reopened after some downed trees were removed. As of 10:00, he said they were working to remove downed trees on KY 91.

McCaslin said some trees have fallen on houses but no injuries have been reported.

As of 11:45 Sunday morning, Princeton Electric Plant Board is working to restore numerous outages around town while Pennyrile Electric is reporting 993 outages in Caldwell and approximately 1,500 in Lyon County. KU/LG&E is reporting around 1,060 outages in Caldwell County.

As of 1:00 pm, Kenergy is reporting 333 power outages, down from 813 outages from the morning storms. In Lyon County, power has been restored to about 100 customers leaving approximately 1,100 still without electricity.

As of 12:45 pm Sunday, Princeton Electric Plant Board is reporting that crews are working on an outage that covers Dawson Road, North Jefferson, Hopkinsville Street and areas in between. Officials say that power is expected to be restore in those areas in less than two hours if things go as planned. However, they indicate there will be some isolated areas in that space that will not be restored when the majority of customers are.

According to PEPB, if you are on oxygen or have critical medical needs, you should consider making plans to seek shelter somewhere other than your home tonight. As of 12-:45 pm officials stated they do have out-of-town crews coming into Princeton but it will be 4-5 hours before they arrive. They have all hands on deck from our local employees and are working as quickly as possible to safely restore power in the community.

Residents are being urged to stay at home while crews work to clean up the debris around the county. If you need a safe place to shelter, Caldwell County Judge-Executive Kota Young has announced the courthouse is open.

More severe thunderstorms are expected to move through western Kentucky throughout the day and into the evening hours. Be weather-aware throughout the day and have a plan to seek safe shelter is a severe thunderstorm or tornado warning is issued.
