Structural Damage Reported in Lyon County from Sunday Storms

Several homes were damaged in Lyon County Sunday evening when a line of severe thunderstorms moved across the county prompting tornado warnings.

Lyon County Sheriff Brent White tells WPKY’s News Edge that the tornado was spotted north of Eddyville shortly after 8:00.

click to download audioHe said there was a second tornado reported around that same time near the KY 1943 area that crossed US 641 heading toward the Western Kentucky Correctional Complex.

According to White, some homes and other buildings were damaged.

click to download audioSheriff White says the are asking people to stay out of these areas the next few days so emergency management can assess the damage Monday morning. He also said they may have to close some roads to allow utility crews to make needed repairs to restore power.

click to download audioAs of 11:45 Sunday night, Pennyrile Electric and Kenergy both were reporting approximately 1,400 power outages in Lyon County, while KU/LG&E was reporting around 430 outages.
