At Tuesday’s meeting, the Caldwell County Fiscal Court moved to apply for a grant to fully fund a shared-use path along US 62 West, a project Judge-Executive Kota Young described as an exciting community opportunity.
Taking a step back at the meeting, Judge Young reminded residents what is so exciting about this GRANT Program for the shared use path project.
click to download audioHe further explained that magistrates had previously approved a contract with Strand Associates, Inc., which has designed a 2.3-mile shared-use path.

He noted that while the total project cost is over $5.3 million, they hope to secure funding to cover what would typically be the county’s match of over $1.3 million.

In other business, magistrates approved a resolution for the Fiscal Year 2026 County Road Aid Cooperative Agreement, totaling over $1.1 million, with an initial distribution of $698,339 starting July 1, 2025.
Magistrates also approved a resolution setting the duties and compensation for the Caldwell County Jailer for Fiscal Year 2026 for approximately $95,091.
click to download audioAdditionally, the Fiscal Court approved a motion to declare a Husqvarna YTH 22V46 riding mower, featuring a 22 HP Briggs and Stratton engine and a 46-inch cut, along with a new set of uninstalled blades from the Caldwell County Animal Shelter, as surplus. Animal Control Officer Kevin Lane noted this was made possible by a mower donation from the City.
