Caldwell County Gathers for National Day of Prayer Celebration (w/PHOTOS)

Community members, local leaders, and pastors gathered on the south steps of the Caldwell County Courthouse at noon Thursday to celebrate the 73rd Annual National Day of Prayer, held every first Thursday in May.

Bro. Harrell Riley shared with WPKY’s News Edge the significance of the National Day of Prayer, which was established by the United States Congress over seven decades ago.

click to download audioAfter his remarks, Caldwell County Judge-Executive Kota Young expressed the honor and privilege of publicly celebrating our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, emphasizing the importance of not taking this freedom for granted. He acknowledged that this opportunity is made possible by the sacrifices of countless servicemen and servicewomen who have defended our country and freedoms. He specifically mentioned local veteran H.C. Beck, requesting a moment of silence to pray for him as he was hospitalized following an accident on Thursday morning.

click to download audioFollowing the moment of silence, the Color Guard presented their display, and Suzanne Boaz sang the National Anthem. The crowd then bowed their heads as eight pastors offered prayers for various groups, including:

In his closing remarks, Bro. Harrell urged everyone to continue praying beyond the program, seeking hope and joy for the community, their personal lives, and their churches.
