All students are safe after a Caldwell County school bus carrying over 30 children ended up in a ditch Thursday morning.
Assistant Princeton Police Chief Shane Allison reported that around 7:15 a.m., a motorist flagged down officers on KY 91 in the school zone about a school bus in a ditch on Jeff Watson Road. He said officers discovered the bus facing northbound near the railroad tracks and immediately called EMS to respond in case of any injuries.
According to the investigation, police said the bus driver, 36-year-old Clay Overby, was traveling north on Jeff Watson Road with 37 children on board when he moved over to avoid a southbound car that he said appeared too close to the center of the road. Overby told officers that the rear passenger side tire dropped off the road and he was unable to regain control, causing the bus to continue into the ditch before stopping.
Police said EMS evaluated the students for possible injuries, and none were transported to the hospital.
