Johnny Son, a member of the Caldwell County community, passed away peacefully at home on May 29, 2025, at the age of 64. Born on March 5, 1961, in the very same county he loved, Johnny filled his life with the warmth and skill of his hands and heart.
His journey began as the beloved son of his Caldwell County family, where he was raised among two sisters and five brothers, with whom he shared countless memories and from whom he developed a strong sense of family that he would carry throughout his life. In 1984, Johnny married his soulmate and best friend, Kathy Flowers Son. Together, they built a life filled with love and mutual respect, celebrating 41 years of a beautiful marriage.
Johnny’s fatherly love was evident in his commitment to his children. He was the proud dad of Samantha Wurtman and her husband, David, of Louisville, KY, and Johnathan Son and his partner, Adario, of Los Angeles, CA. His actions and presence in their lives taught them the meaning of unwavering support and unconditional love. Johnny’s role as an uncle brought joy both to him and his many nieces and nephews, who will cherish his memory in countless stories of family gatherings and holidays.
Johnny was a man whose interests and talents were as varied as they were impressive. His passion for the restoration of old cars was not just a hobby but a testament to his patience and skill. His craftsmanship as a carpenter was evident in the beautiful works he created. He had a tender heart for farm animals and could often be found tending to his garden.
On the drag racing tracks, he could be seen in his blue Camaro, receiving several trophies, each a symbol of the skill he put into every race. His fellow members of the ELKS enjoyed his time spent with them.
The words that best describe Johnny are thoughtful and handy. He possessed the rare kind of thoughtfulness that never went unnoticed. His ability to fix things extended beyond the tangible; he had an uncanny ability to understand and repair what was on one’s mind or weighing on their heart.
We remember Johnny as a man with a gentle soul, a lively spirit, and a generous heart. While we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a life exceptionally well-lived, a life that has taught us the power of kindness, the value of hard work, and the irreplaceable bond of family. Johnny Son’s legacy will live on in the cherished memories of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Johnny’s life was a journey of passion, love, and joy, and it is with those same emotions that we bid him a fond farewell.
