Zari Wilson, an upcoming junior at Caldwell County High School, is about to embark on an impressive summer journey.

According to school officials, Wilson has been selected to attend the University of Kentucky AHEC Health Careers Camp—the Summer Enrichment Program. This two-week residential camp hosted by the University of Kentucky Area Health Education Center brings together high school students who are serious about pursuing health careers and gives them a chance to experience college life early.

School officials say that throughout the camp, students live on the University of Kentucky campus and dive into a packed schedule including lectures, chemistry and biology labs, and hands-on activities. Wilson and fellow participants will observe real healthcare professionals and even learn directly from current UK students in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and more. The program also offers clinical observation, including time in the Minimally Invasive Surgery lab, where students get to try their hand at some of the skills surgical residents practice.

Students may also earn their CPR certification and will be encouraged to participate in a variety of clinical settings. Highlights include personalized meetings with the deans of each health college, offering perspectives you rarely get as a high schooler.

This is a unique achievement, as Wilson is the very first student from Caldwell County High School chosen for the program.
