Ronald Sexton, 81, of Henderson, Nevada

Ronald Douglas Sexton, 81, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at his home in Henderson, Nevada.

Born on September 6, 1943, in Kuttawa, Kentucky, he spent his formative years in Detroit after his family relocated there when he was just eleven years of age. His deep sense of duty and love for his country were evident from a young age, leading him to serve in the United States Army with his parents’ blessing at the age of 17. He held a post in Germany for three years, and upon his return, continued to serve as part of the United States Army Reserves.

His commitment to public service extended to a notable career spanning over 32 years as a police officer for the city of Detroit. In the early ’70s, he became a union president, negotiating fervently and fairly on behalf of his fellow officers. Ron carried the same passion into his retirement, which he enjoyed in Las Vegas, a city he and his wife loved and frequented while making memories together.

Ron was also an active Freemason, previously serving as a master of Center Line Masonic Lodge in Michigan, and he took great pride in his affiliation with the Moslem Temple as a shriner. He always sought ways to connect with his community, one of which was by contributing his insights and leadership as a board member for the Spirit of Detroit Association, a hydroplane racing organization.

A collector at heart, Ron found joy in the pursuit of new additions to his assorted compilations of coins, watches-including a noteworthy assortment of pocket watches-and sunglasses, each collection a reflection of his diverse interests and appreciation for history and craftsmanship.

Ronald is survived by his wife, Mary Tomassini Sexton; daughter, Sherri Warner of Michigan; two sons, Ronald E. (Cherie) Sexton of Hazel Park, Michigan, Ryan (Michelle) Sexton of Almont, Michigan; three grandchildren, Lisa Marie Warner, Alexis Kolbe and Charles Sexton; several nieces and nephews; two fur babies, Charles and Alice.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Rena McQuigg Sexton; four brothers, James “Sonny” Sexton, Robert Sexton, Russell Sexton, and Jerry Sexton.

Memorial services will be held at 12:00 p.m. (CST) on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Lakeland Funeral Home in Eddyville, Kentucky, with Bro. Jed Ramey officiating. Burial will follow in Macedonia Cemetery in Lyon County.

Memorial visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Lakeland Funeral Home.
