City Council Approves Tree Removal Bids, Eyes Grant for Soccer Complex Upgrades

The Princeton City Council moved forward on multiple community projects during Monday night’s meeting, approving bids for tree removal at a local cemetery and a resolution to seek grant funding for improvements at the soccer complex.

Mayor Brock Thomas recommended that the council approve a resolution to apply for a Land & Water Conservation Fund Grant, through the Pennyrile Area Development District, to help fund the renovation of the bathrooms and concession stands of the soccer complex.

click to download audioThe mayor also reported that he has received bids to remove trees at Cedar Hill Cemetery that were damaged by straight-line winds on May 16-17, as well as additional trees that have been identified for removal.

click to download audioThe Council approved a bid of $2,900 from Princeton Nursery and Lawn to remove seven trees, along with a $17,000 bid from Superior Outdoor Service to remove the twelve trees.

Mayor Thomas also mentioned that he has met with the engineers to discuss the estimated cost to conduct a study of the flooding issue on South Seminary Street. However, he added that before the Council takes any action, he would like to explore the possibility of acquiring a house that may benefit the city.
