Michael Ray Thurmond, a cherished son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on June 2, 2025, in Nashville, Tennessee. Born on April 9, 1977, in Princeton, Kentucky, Michael’s life was a testament to the love and joy he so freely gave to others. He was of the Catholic faith.
A man of many passions, Michael was an avid collector. He loved going to auctions, where he could be found adding to his impressive collections of coins and Case knives. His love for animals was equally well known, as he always had time to care for and appreciate the companionship they offered. He loved fishing and being outdoors.
He is survived by his devoted mother, Shirley Cooper Martin of Princeton, who was a constant source of love and support. Michael also leaves behind his brothers, John Thomas Coleman of Paducah and Chris (Pennye) Thurmond of Dyersburg, Tennessee. His uncles, Glen R. (Madeline) Thurmond of Memphis, Tennessee, and Hayden (Nancy) Cooper of Princeton, along with his aunt, Elizabeth Zanaska of Cleveland, TN; nieces and nephews, Drew Coleman and Amber Coleman both of Nashville, TN, Troy Hammond and Brian Zanaska of Cleveland, TN, Casey (Emily) Cooper of Louisville, Jarren (Brian) Phelps of Princeton, who will fondly remember Michael for the joy he brought into their lives
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Rex Henry Thurmond, and his brother, Rex H. “Hank” Thurmond, IV; maternal grandparents, Hayden and Giovanna Cooper; paternal grandparents, Rex Henry, II and Peggy Thurmond.
A memorial visitation will be held from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm Sunday, June 29, 2025 at Morgan’s Funeral Home.
