Bobby Fraliex, a cherished soul whose roots and heart were firmly planted in Fredonia, KY, passed away on June 16, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on July 1, 1950, to the town that he would call home for his entire life, Bobby was a beloved figure known for his unwavering work ethic, his passion for sports, and his kindred spirit.
A proud graduate of Fredonia High School’s class of 1969, Bobby was a star on the basketball court, where he dazzled fans as a 1,000-point scorer for the Fredonia Yellow Jackets. His love for the game was lifelong, and he could often be found discussing the finer points of basketball, especially his treasured UK basketball, with anyone who shared his interest. He could also be found at games supporting his son, Michael, as he played for WKU and later as a coach. His enthusiasm for sports extended to the New York Yankees, where his loyalty as a fan was as steadfast as his commitment to his community.
Bobby’s working years were spent in the heart of the earth as an underground coal miner for Island Creek Mines. He later transitioned to working with Princeton Lumber in construction, bringing a strong back and a sharp mind to every project he touched.
Beyond the workplace, Bobby’s Christian faith was a cornerstone of his life. He was a devoted member of the Fredonia First Baptist Church, where he found strength and fellowship. His religion guided him through life’s trials and triumphs, and it was a source of comfort and inspiration to him and those who knew him.
Bobby’s personal interests were as rich and varied as his character. He was an avid animal lover, with a special place in his heart for his dogs and cats. He also cherished time spent camping. Above all, Bobby’s greatest joy was being with his family, especially his grandchildren, whose lives he enriched with his wisdom, humor, and boundless love.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Janice Crick Fraliex; sons, Michael (Lee Ann) Fraliex of Kuttawa and Dustin Fraliex of Fredonia; two brothers, Barry (Christy) Fraliex and Earl (Helen) Fraliex; four grandchildren, Macy Heaton, Walker Heaton, Bo Fraliex, Trey Fraliex.
