A grand jury will hear a theft case involving a former Caldwell County deputy jailer after a hearing in Caldwell County District Court Monday morning.33-year-old Dustin Driver of Princeton is charged with theft by unlawful taking over $10,000 following an investigation by the Kentucky State Police Post 2.

During his arraignment last week in District Court, Judge Matthew Schalk entered a plea of not guilty on behalf of Driver, who appeared remotely from the Fulton County Jail, where he was being held on a $5,000 surety bond.

Driver was recently released from jail and appeared in court Monday morning with his public defender, Eric Bearden, for a preliminary hearing before Judge Schalk. During the brief session, Bearden requested that Judge Schalk waive the preliminary hearing and send the case to the grand jury, which he granted.

According to state police, Driver was arrested on June 12 following an investigation into missing cash from the jail’s kiosk, which he was responsible for depositing at the bank. Authorities reported that Driver admitted to the theft, which began on July 29, 2024, and continued through June 2. During this period, police said 51 deposits were missing, totaling approximately $14,112. Police also reported that Driver had confessed to the theft to officials at the Caldwell County Jail on June 5.
